Retail Jewelry Trends in 2009

Jewelry is a item which is used to adorn the body, those can be necklace, brooches, ear rings, bracelets, precious metals, rings, etc. These jewelry can be made by any material, may be gold, silver, platinum, plastic, etc., and it may be made with any material like precious metals or shells, gemstones. It depends on cultural differences and materials availability.

Sometimes, jewelry is considered as wealth storage. It was considered as a form of personal adornment from earlier. Jewelry was made with natural materials like animal teeth, bone, wood, shell and carved stone. It indicates the social status of the people.

Necklace business is the top category in many retail channels and it is increasing day by day. Women have done about 60 percent of the sales of jewelry for their own use. 15 percent of sales of jewelry was done by online and remaining was done through stores directly.

30 percent of the jewelry sales was done by the age group of 35 to 54 and 30 percent of was done by age groups between 18 to 34 customers. Sales of jewelry in 2009 were 9.3 billion dollars and 9.4 billion dollars in 2008 and 11.2 billion dollars in 2007.
