Among the online advertising trends, online display advertising had performed well in Europe. It overtook search advertising with an average growth rate of 21.3%. However, search advertising experienced a growth of 15.1% in 2010. Display ads as per the data collected included PC-based and mobile banners, rich media and video formats. A growth rate of more than 20% was observed with respect to online display advertising in both mature as well as emerging markets. It was found to be 31% in Ireland, 30% in Spain and 27% in Russia.

There was a continued growth of online TV inventory and long-form video consumption. It pushed up the spend while still maintaining the high CPM (cost per thousand). In most markets, the online video ad spend almost doubled. Online video grew 125% in Spain to €13 million and in UK the growth was 90% to a market value of €63 million. As per the IAB Europe’s AdEx survey, out of the 12 markets surveyed for mobile advertising, the mobile ad spend accounted for 2% to 3% of the total online ad spend. However, the powerful performance of online display advertising in Europe is contributed by the video, mobile and social media.

There was a growth of online search and display advertising in the country. Search advertising accounted for about 49% constituting $7.2 billion of the online ad revenues of the first six months. Display advertising that includes banner ads, digital video, rich media and sponsorship accounted about 37% of the internet ad revenues in the first half of the year. Online display ads totaled more than $5.5 billion and banner ads constituted the highest revenues (23% accounting $3.4 billion) among the other types of display ads.

Digital video, a component of display advertising, increased 42% from 2010 to 2011 and represented 6% of the overall year-to-date revenues. Each of online search and display advertising grew about 27% year-over-year, however, the search advertising in the first half of 2011 had more than doubled its previous year’s growth rate of 11.6 percent.

Following the search and display advertising modes were classifieds accounting 8%, referrals or lead generation accounting 5% and e-mail accounting 1% of the online ad revenues of the first half of the year in US. Apart from the growth of online search and display advertising, amount spent on lead generation also increased 25.4 percent over the same period in 2010. However, classified ad dollars decreased 2 percent.

Under the consideration of revenue pricing models, ads using performance-based models increased to $9.6 billion. This increase was much faster than ads using impression-based models. It was evident from the figures of the report that there had been a strong online advertising growth in the United States this year. The ability of advertisers to correlate performance and results with the investment was found to fuel this growth.

As per the data of Performics, a search agency, there has been an increasing trend of online advertisements viewed through web-based platforms from mobiles. With the data collected from its clients for the first three months of 2011, it estimated that there had been a growth in mobile search impressions by 195 percent on an year-over-year basis. It is estimated to reach 9.6% of all search advertisements in the first quarter of 2011.

In the US, about 10% of online search ads were served to mobile devices in March 2011. During this period, they accounted for the 9.8% of the ad clicks. As of December 2010, the mobile devices accounted for only 9.4% of the ad clicks. Though there was a decrease in the percentage share of ad clicks through mobiles in January (8.7%) and February (8.8%), it rose again to 9.8% by March 2011. With an increase in ad impressions and clicks through mobile, it can be said that there had been a proliferation of mobile device usage throughout the US.

World’s largest car manufacturing company Toyota has said that it has produced 129,491 units in the March 2011 and sales growth has fell down by 62.7 percent. Toyota is now losing its top auto- production rank, it stood in the first place since 2008. Toyota sold only 8.42 million units for the year 2010 whereas, GM has sold 8.39 million units for the same period.
