New Era In Egyptian Election, “Multi-Candidate Presidential Election”

President Hosni Mubarak brought a new era in 2005 Egyptian presidential election. As per this amendment of constitution, “multi-candidate presidential election” is allowed.

Earlier in Egypt, presidential election followed by following rule:

The President was elected by “Majority votes’ in a referendum.
No one could run against the President due to a restriction in the Egyptian constitution
People’s Assembly play main role to elect the President of the Republic.

Thus, to overcome from all, Mubarak passed a constitutional amendment, which allows parties directly running against the incumbent president. But this was totally criticized in domestic and international platform. Hence, this constitution amendment was finally replaced by “multi-candidate presidential election”.

With this constitutional law:

The 2005 ballot was a multiple candidate election rather than a referendum
The electoral institutions and security apparatus came under the control of the President.

This constitution law basically helped Mubarak to re-elect in presidential election. But, this constitution surely helps Egypt in coming future with positive result and development.

2005 The Year Of Natural Disasters

The year 2005 will always be remembered as a year of natural disasters. Three deadly natural disasters affected the world’s economy and development. Five major natural disasters are:

Tsunami waves in Asia: This disaster claimed more than 225,000 lives. It majorly affected the eleven countries bordering around the Indian Ocean. Destruction of entire cities, contamination of farmland and depletion of fish stock were the major losses from this disaster.

Earthquake in Pakistan: This majorly striked the Pakistani controlled Kashmir region. About half of Muzaffarabad regions were destroyed. As per the survey 81,000 persons were killed and 3 million were left homeless.

Hurricane Katrina disaster in the US gulf coast: It was the deadliest hurricane in the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. It started from Bahamas and ended in the Gulf coast with heavy destruction. This disaster killed 1,836 people and left as many homeless.

Other major disasters of 2005 were:

Threat of flu pandemic
Crops destruction by locusts in Niger

PRC Law Against Taiwan Freedom

Earlier Taiwan used to come under the Qing Dynasty. Later it was surrendered to Japan under the Treaty of Shimonoseki by China. But at the end of World War II, it was again surrendered to the Kuomintang (KMT) Administration of the Republic of China by Japan.

After the declaration as People’s Republic of China in 1949, Taiwan continued to be controlled by Republic of China forces. They adopted some version of the “One-China policy”, to consider Taiwan as a province of China. But it always boycotted by both officials and politicians of Taiwan. Finally they declared for Taiwan independence.

So, to end the declaration of Taiwan independence and to bring peace and unification in china PRC (People’s Republic of China) amended a law called as “The Anti-Secession Law”. Anti-secession law was ratified on March 14, 2005, and went into effect under the PRC PresidentHu Jintao. He promulgated law as Presidential Decree No. 34 which contained ten articles.

As per the Anti-secession law, PRC government has an authority to use “non-peaceful means” against the “Taiwan independence movement” in the event of a declaration of Taiwan independence. This law in brief states that the aim of the law is:

To stop the Taiwan independence movement from dividing the country
To promote reunification and the sovereignty of China.
To deal with cross-strait relations and non-peaceful action.

At last, some countries certified this law as worthy but few countries certified it as worthless including Taiwan.

Huygens probe Lander confirm liquid on Titan’s surface

Huygens probe was Lander and a part of the Cassini-Huygens mission. This mission was jointly done by NASA, ESA and ASI. The major objective behind this mission is to confirm the presence of large bodies of liquid on the surface of Titan. It was launched on December 25, 2004. This was the first time human-made probe, which landed on an extraterrestrial ocean. It was designed to enter and build fully instrumented robotic laboratory on the surface of Titan.

Assuming the landing site as non-solid, the Huygens probe was splash downed on a liquid surface of Titan. It was equipped with six complex instruments, which helped to take a wide range of scientific data from Titan’s atmosphere. These are:

· Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument (HASI)

· Doppler Wind Experiment (DWE)

· Descent Imager/Spectral Radiometer (DISR)

· Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS)

· Aerosol Collector and Pyrolyser (ACP)

· Surface-Science Package (SSP)

After successful descend to Titan surface the probe support equipment (PSE) remained attached to the orbiting spacecraft. The PSE was included to track the probe, to recover the data gathered during its descent, and to process and deliver the data to the orbiter, from which it transmitted to the ground.

After complete verification it was confirmed that large bodies of liquid on the surface of Titan are present. With this successful result, a hope of existing life is deliberately confirmed.

First HIV Cure Reported, A New Hope For Life

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a dangerous disease, generally caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which attacks the human immune system. It reduces the effectiveness of the immune system and leaves individuals to infections and tumors. Finally, it results in the death of that individual.

But in year 2005, a person named Andrew Stimpson made medical history. He became the first person who beat the AIDS virus. A diagnosis of 14 months showed that the deadly virus had left his body. All doctors were surprised by the results of the tests. They believe this case as a breakthrough in the search for a cure for AIDS. He was diagnosed with the virus in August 2002.

Earlier in the past, nobody has ever been proved to clear himself or herself from HIV; but Mr. Simpson’s case made it true. Thus, this result makes a new hope of life to those who are already fighting with this dangerous disease.

Campaign To Transform Poverty As History

Make poverty, as history was the campaign, which increased awareness and pressure on governments for taking actions towards relieving absolute poverty. The positive effect of this campaign mainly helped to number of countries like Australia, Canada and many more other developed and developing countries.

These campaigns are the part of the international ‘Global Call’. It is a union of aid and development agencies, which work together to raise awareness of global poverty and achieve policy change by the government. Following major action plan and awareness took placed in different country’s campaign:

UK campaign groups mobilized around the UK to increase awareness and pressurize the government. The symbol of the campaign was a white “awareness bracelet”
In Canada, campaign was launched with four major objectives:
More and better foreign aid
Trade justice
To cancel all the debts owed by poor countries to developed countries
To eliminate child poverty in Canada
In US campaign, members demanded to raise voice against poverty
