Small businesses are believed to play a lead role in changing the U.S. Economy. A significant percentage Americans (nearly 2/3) believe that it will not be federal government, but small businesses that will turn around the economic crisis happened due to recession.

According to a Wakefield research survey, which was conducted on 1024 representative Americans stated that more than 70 percent of Americans think small businesses are more likely to turn around the economy than the federal government of U.S. However, only a very small number of respondents (1 in 10) took this responsibility into their own hands and started a business since the start of the recession. Almost two-thirds of Americans felt that the federal government has been ineffective in creating jobs in the past year and they believe it will be the same case in the nest year also. Only 7 percent of respondents were very confident on the government to create considerable jobs in the next year.

Recently on of my friend forwarded an E-mail, which made me stay stunned. It is about none but one of the worlds richest persons – Warren Buffet. There was a one-hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, when he was the second richest man in the world. I would like to share that mail as it is. I have inspired a lot from that mail to know about the simplicity and power of human being. The points in the mail go like this:

He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!
He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.
He still lives in the same small 3-bedroom house in mid-town Omaha, that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence
He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.
He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world’s largest private jet company.
His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis. He has given his CEO’s only two rules. Rule number 1: do not lose any of your share holder’s money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.
He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch Television.
Bill Gates, the world’s richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Buffet.
Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.

His advice to young people: ‘Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself and remember:

Money doesn’t create man; it is the man who created money.
Live Ur life as simple as U are.
Don’t do what others say, just listen to them, but do what U feel good.
Don’t go for brand name; just wear those things in which u feel comfortable.

IBM To Slash 5000 Jobs

There is another massive job cut to come from the giant player of the IT industry. IBM announced to cut around 5000 jobs and just from US.

This would probably increase the unemployment rate to a certain extent, as the number is big this time. The shares of IBM are running a little slower than normal, with the news.

The job cuts will be mainly in the global services section. Though the job cuts are not appreciable, the IBM has no other choice in order to reduce its costs amid bad economy as well as bad business.

There are some other news that the job cuts are going to increase to 10,000. No news from IBM yet on the number of job cuts or specific reasons for the job cuts.

I hope this doesn’t encourage some other company to announce layoffs in their organization.

The US housing market seems to be recovering soon from the recession than any of the industries. The exiting home sales were reported to increase by 5.1 percent in February. The annual rate has increased to 4.72 million units from 4.49 million units in January.

This rise is surprising as well as significant amid the woes of the industry. The rise is not as big, but even a small rise in indexes is just enough to boost the hopes of real estate industry again.

It is the decline in existing home prices and increase in discount rates that actually is the main cause of increase in house sales. Prices are expected to fall to further extent, and I think this will likely boost the sales to more good numbers.

The recent trends of cutting jobs, in almost all the industries, have the potential to obstruct people from even thinking of buying a house.

The World Trade Organization has predicted a 9 percent decline in global trade. If this happens, the situations are record-worst since the times of World War II.

Also, the record of unabated increase of global trade since 1982, would simply impede. According to WTO’s announcement, the richer countries will experience worse global trades. And the situation of poorer nations, which mostly rely on the commerce, and exports of rich countries would be even worst.

The numbers showed Germany as the leading exporter with $1.47 trillion worth of trades. China comes to second place with $1.47 trillions. US stands in third place with $1.3 trillion exports.

Coming to imports, US stands in first position with $2.17 trillion worth of purchases, though it is 4 percent less compared to previous year. Nest best importers are Germany with $1.21 trillion purchases, China with $1.13 trillion purchases.

I didn’t know that a recession could impact these many things. Everything bad going on in most of the recent news is somehow or the other related with recession. I was surprised that even pets get affected due to recession.

So, I am not surprised when I saw this news. According to a recent study by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, mid-size art organizations were extremely hit by the bad economy. I didn’t understand why the case is with only mid-size art organizations. But the experts say that many of these organizations lack in endowments and cash reserves. They don’t even have access to online credit; and have extreme integral costs to comply with the quality of their work. And the donors, who used to support these organizations to some extent or the other are hit by bad running businesses or sudden layoffs. Amid of their crisis, they are hardly in a situation to donate something to some one.

So, the position is not expected to recover until the entire economy recovers from recession.

Daily, many managers face some employee absenteeism, and every missing worker cuts productivity, increases the strain on the employees who show up for work as promised, and costs your bottom line to some added costs per employee every year. Sick days are often used; a recent survey indicates that two out of three employees who fail to show up for work aren’t staying home because they’re sick. Of that two out of three not sick, about 21% percent miss work to handle family issues, another 18% percent are dealing with personal needs, and the other 61% percent say they’re stressed or simply need a day off.

We all know that when employees call in “sick,” they may not be physically sick; as a matter of fact, if the number’s above are correct, about 40% of the absent are stressed in the work place to the point they feel they need a day off. Many employers continue to increase pressure on employees to increase productivity; however, research shows that stressful working conditions have a negative effect on the bottom line because of increased tardiness and absenteeism, development of real stress-related illness such as heart disease, and loss of experienced employees who move on looking for a less stressful job.

Solutions are possible, especially considering that almost half the working conditions that have been identified as stress inducers are directly a result of communication failures. Many of these problems can be solved with better communications throughout the company, especially in terms of putting expectations and goal in writing. NIOSH research shows that organizations that have both low-stress workplaces and high levels of productivity have common characteristics that include the following:
