Know about Health Information Technology and Barriers to its Adoption

Health Information Technology (HIT) provides the frame work to describe the comprehensive management of health information across computerized systems and its secure exchange between consumers, providers, government and quality entities, and insurers. There are various types of health information technology including electronic medical records (EMR), electronic health records (EHR) and new medical equipment. HIT is used to improve the quality of health care, prevent medical errors, reduce health care costs and paper work, increase administrative efficiencies and expand access to affordable care. Interoperable HIT will not only help in improving the individual patient care but it also helps in the early detection of infectious disease outbreaks around the country and improved tracking of chronic disease management etc.

Barriers for the adaption of health information technology:

Cost:
The costs of HIT are high and in addition to initial costs there are costs to update and maintain the software and hardware. American Medical Association has stated that the cost of EMR system typically runs $30,000 per physician.

Privacy:
Privacy is one of the major barriers for the implementation of HIT. Patients and physicians have complained against inappropriate access and use of medical records. Though there are rules for protecting the privacy of the patient’s information, house safeguards may not be enough to prevent data breaches.

Implementation:
Physicians, nurses and other medical staff have less time to learn about the new technology as they spend majority of their time focused on direct patient care. So it is difficult to implement HIT as the medical staff may be unable or unwilling to take the time to train and learn the new technology.

HIT has its own advantages and also disadvantages. Hence, it should be implemented according to the needs in the organization.

Marijuana is a very harmful and illicit drug. It has different names such as pot, herb, weed, grass, boom, Mary Jane, gangster, chronic etc. Many children are using Marijuana, and most of them don’t know the negative effects of Marijuana. Memory, judgment and perception are effected by marijuana abuse. Marijuana affects the students performance at school, in academics, in sports, or clubs. Excessive Marijuana abuse makes you loose interest at school and work.

You can see this in athletes when they abuse Marijuana. Their performance gets affected their timing, movements, and coordination will also get affected. Judgment and decision making can be affected by the use of Marijuana. Chemicals of Marijuana also affects the person’s sight, ability to hear, smell, taste and feel things. Because of these reasons a student can loose interest in schools, sports, and in other activities.

So if you compare the drug using students and students who do not use drugs in school, students who do not use drugs perform well in every activity. So you may lose joyful childhood days and good career.

So it is better to avoid using drugs lead normal, happy and successful life with your friends and your family.

Kids into Unnecessary Vitamin Intakes

The concept of external vitamin supplements has been introduced to deal with children whose mothers fail to make them eat required amount of food everyday.

But these days’ children seem to pop them in like some candies; though there it is not required for them. According to recent survey, about one-third of US teens and kids take vitamins even though there is no actual requirement for it. They are healthy and active but they just pop them in – may be in hope of extremely well health.

But the children with poor health and bad eating habits, who could probably benefit from taking these vitamins, are not taking them.

Doesn’t the news seem weird?

However, the annual market of these vitamins is a $2 billion industry. These vitamins supplements which we talked about till now aren’t cheap either. You will have to spend around $10 to $12 for bottle of multi-vitamin tablets.

Facts about Prescription Drug Abuse

The abuse of prescription drugs is becoming a major problem next only to marijuana abuse and the people should undergo the marijuana drug test offered by many clinics to control it. One of the main reasons for the growth of prescription drug abuse is the availability of drugs on the counter of a pharmacy, a doctor or through pharmaceuticals online. It is increasingly easy to mainly young people access to narcotic drugs as tranquilizers and stimulants, where abuse is growing rapidly. Some of the facts about prescription drug abuse are as follows-

A considerable number of people are abusing prescription drugs. According to National Institute of Drug Abuse, an estimated 48 million people (20%) who are aged 12 and above of US population have used prescription drugs for non-medical purposes or reasons.
Non-medical use of prescription-type drugs among young adults increased from 5.4 percent in 2002 to 6.4 percent in 2006. This was primarily due to an increase in the rate of pain relievers’ usage, which was 4.1 percent in 2002 and 4.9 percent in 2006.
Non-medical use of tranquilizers also increased over the 5-year period, from 1.6 in 2002 to 2.0 percent in 2006.
Teenagers and youngsters are the main sections involved in prescription drug abuse. It is found that, 15.4 percent of high school seniors reported non-medical use of at least one prescription medication that is drug testing in schools within the last year (2006).
NIDA states that OxyContin use in the last year was reported by 1.8 percent of 8th-graders, 3.9 percent of 10th-graders, and 5.2 percent of 12th- graders.
Vicodin use in 2006 was reported by 2.7 percent of 8th-graders, 7.2 percent of 10th-graders, and 9.6 percent of 12th-graders, remaining stable at relatively high levels for each grade.
Friends or relatives are becoming the first reason and an easy source for the prescription drug abuse. Among persons aged 12 or older who used pain relievers non-medical reasons in the past 12 months (2006), 55.7 percent reported that the source of the drug most recently they used, was from a friend or relative for free.
Doctors are also an easy source to obtain narcotic medications. 19.1 percent of the prescription drug abusers reported they got the drug from just one doctor.

How People Get Addicted To Drugs?

People get addicted to bad things easier than to the good ones. When somebody says addiction we automatically think of drugs. Because it is very easy to get addicted to drugs and so hard to get rid of addiction. I strongly believe that prevention is better than cure. If we know what helps get us addicted to drugs, we may try to reduce a little risk of getting addicted.

Human brain is very vulnerable, especially to bad things. So main cause of drug addiction is human’s weakness in struggle of being a social being. This struggle, we face it daily and there are many who feel themselves as incompetent here. So this leads to lack of willpower, by poverty, moral weakness, mental illness, genetics, family socialization, anti-social personalities, and societal problems. And a human starts thinking to run away from all this hard ships, somebody introduces him this way to forget society. He feels it good for first time, better for second and from third time he is addicted to it.

So just prevent yourself feeling incompetent to face life. This helps you keep away from searching other ways to escape struggle. This will be the best step to get rid of addiction. And for the people who are already addicted to drugs, I suggest to cooperate with people around you who are striving to make you normal. Life is more beautiful out here than it looks.

How Does Alcohol Influence Your Career?

Alcohol consumption is another issue besides drug addiction. The reason that it poses a serious problem in the society is that it is not illicit or illegal alcohol, when compared to the drug consumption. It is easier to buy alcohol as it is not illegal to buy or sell alcohol, in general. But that doesn’t mean that your boss will appreciate when you attend your work in alcoholic state. When alcohol is consumed it affects brain by inducing many forms of typical behavior outputs such as impaired judgment, extreme emotion, and slowed behavior. Long-term effects include damage in cognitive behavior such as difficulty in learning new things, inefficient creativity and problem solving. The alcohol consumption with respect to the work place may be drinking before a shift, in lunch breaks or during work hours. Drinking in workplace results in increase in absenteeism, under-performing due to being under the influence of drink or having a hangover from drinking the previous night, possibilities to face accidents, and finally when you are caught positive by employee drug testing campaign it is an extra cost for your employer to replace you.
